Film: Spinal Tap II: The End Continues
Another blast from the past, where I have never seen the original.
In this, the fictional heavy metal band are now in the ‘heritage’stage of their career. Having fallen out and not spoken for years, they reunite for a final gig. This is on the premise that their late manager’s daughter (Kerry Godliman, who is popping up everywhere in films) has found an old contract that obliged them to perform one more gig. Having initially thought her father died penniless, this piece of paper had some worth, so she set about finding the 3 remaining members. The running joke here is that every drummer they have had died - so who will agree to drum for them? Queue a series of well-known drummers rejecting them on video calls. Those quick cameos all worked but I’m unsure if the same could be said of the longer roles given to a couple of superstars.
However, it is a laugh-a-minute film, just what the world needs and long may it stick around in cinemas to give as many people as possible a short escape from the reality of living on Earth in 2025.
For such a silly, funny film, my number one takeaway is this incredibly relevant quote:
Freedom is living without fear.
