Film: Rental Family
I was going to see this film regardless of the story, because I'm a big fan of the star. This film stars Tokyo, Japan, with an excellent supporting cast, including Brendan Fraser, who plays Philip.
Philip is an American actor living in Tokyo when his agent sends him to an unexpected job. At Rental Agencies, people can hire any person, whether it's the perfect wife waiting at home with your pretend child, or the husband you need so that your parents can be satisfied that you are happy. The big surprise: with all my curiosity and love for Japan, I did not know rental agencies really exist. They fill the gaps.
Rental Family is about the vital human connections and what happens without them and with them. As Philip grapples with his role as a pretend husband and father, we gain insight into the perspectives of the people he is helping.
One highlight was when the father-daughter characters visited an immersive art experience, the very one I attended in Tokyo a year ago. It was a memorable part of my visit.
I'll take any excuse to see Tokyo come to life on the big screen and this film did that and so much more.
8½/10 - an extra ½ for Tokyo
