Film: Giant
I went into Giant expecting a film about the boxer's coach, played by Pierce Brosnan - that's what drew me in.
What I got was something quite different. The balance shifted pretty quickly to 50/50, and there ended up being far too much focus on the boxing and the boxer himself, not enough on the coach.
The film is the story of Brendan Ingle, who coached boxer Prince Naseem Hamed from the age of 7 in Sheffield. The portrayal of the early '80s racism Naseem experienced is how I remember it myself. Interestingly, I chanced upon a LinkedIn post from Hamed himself stating he wasn't involved in the film's production, though he does like it.
A bit disappointing, really. I wanted more Brosnan, more of the mentor's story.
Still, it was an OK watch.
