Film: Project Hail Mary
Project Hail Mary is better than expected; it lived up to the hype.
Super sentimental and funny. At least as funny as a film can be about a non‑astronaut stuck in space on their own with a rock‑like being from another planet for company. Project Hail Mary is a saving‑the‑world film that is more about friendship and loyalty than space travel, so it’s more buddy movie than sci‑fi. It owes much to Silent Running and a little bit to Moon, with a sprinkling of ET and Paddington.
I love that the project is led by a fabulous woman character, faced with world-altering decisions so tough that no one should have to make them.
Mostly, you don’t have a soul if you’re not completely enraptured by the relationship Dr Grace forms with Rockie.
