Film: Minions and Monsters

As a big fan of the little yellow mischievants, I relish all of their cinematic escapades. This one is an origin story. Where exactly do they come from, other than France?

Set in the 1920s, the film pays homage to the golden age of cinema, with nods to George Lucas, The Mummy and ogres all turning up despite the period setting. We watch as an old tribe of Minions, led by the strict Dick, accidentally kill every new crime overlord they find to serve.

We are introduced to Henry and James, the key minions of this instalment, outcasts who are less interested in working for criminals and keener on having fun. They befriend Ed, a fellow outcast who is deaf, and the three of them invent a sign language to communicate. Together they go on to conquer monsters, Hollywood, and as usual, save the world.

On the adult humour side, we also meet hapless romantic Dork, a robot alien who falls hopelessly in love with a suffragette.
