Film: Highlander
The habit of putting old films back in cinemas on their anniversaries shows no sign of abating. I was never that bothered with the Highlander films, having only vaguely watched the TV series, but this mattered to the beloved, so off we trotted to relive childhoods, some 40 years later. Squeezing it in ahead of the Michael Jackson film I actually wanted to see.
The casual glossing over of violent crimes against women says it is very much of its time, and the discomfort of that storyline is hard to shake. Outside of that, the rest of it is so gloriously silly you can only laugh. Scotland’s most beloved son playing a Spaniard(?) with a Scottish accent is a good example. Great to see Sean Connery on the big screen, though.
