Film: Dead of Winter

Billed as an action/thriller, this neither thrilled nor had action.

It’s a miserable story of a widow (Emma Thompson, no less) witnessing a crime, which, in a regular world, would be reported to the police and then become an action thriller.

But this is a strange, rural American world, one where apparently you are surprised to live in snowy Minnesota and wonder why your vehicle gets stuck. One where you are surprised to lose phone signal in a place you have been and still have to ask directions. And so the cliches and nonsense continue.

I’m glad we missed this at the cinema now and only endured it in the comfort of our home, where nobody minded if we popped out for a drink. I didn’t even bother to pause it.
