Movie: Foxcatcher

I’ve watched two movies about bullying mentor characters within a week and yet have come through happy!Like Whiplash, the story is about striving to be the best in the world. A low profile, gold medal Olympian wrestler is preparing for this next gold while the millionaire John Du Pont is looking around for a protégé. Despite his millions as part of one of America’s wealthiest families, his true vocation is a wrestling coach and part-time schizophrenic, as we find out as this film reaches its climax. What I can’t get over is his nose, which looks a bit like a beak, fitting as he’s also a keen ornithologist and incredibly strange as he calls himself the ‘Golden Eagle of America’. So he is super eccentric and somehow – well, with a lot of money – convinces said wrestler to come and train with him at his vast grounds. As he gets through the world championships and heads towards the Olympics in Seoul (this is based on their true story) he realises that all is not well in the Du Pont head, who by this point has also convinced his older brother to come and coach the wrestling team.I eventually get past the nose – well actually I absolutely can’t look past the nose but side step it and get into this sad story.I need to choose a comedy to watch next.7½/10  Smile factor 4/10
