Movie - Danny Collins

Danny Collins is not as comedic as the trailer suggested but funny nonetheless. It’s much more of a human story with predictable results – and a few predictable unnecessary lines that even I could tell were coming next. Does this mean I can be a script writer?!Back on tour, forty years after his initial success, Danny is still singing the same songs to adoring audiences, but this is far from his folk roots.  He doesn't enjoy playing to salivating grandmothers - people of his own age. He's decided, his life would have been different if only he had received the letter John Lennon had sent him offering tips – stay true - and advice at the end of the phone. Only the journalist who received it kept it, sold it and it ended up with a collector.  Until now.“Being rich doesn't change your experience in the way you think,” – John LennonThe Lennon letter is based on the true story of Brit folkster Tim Tilston who was the one that never received the letter, but that’s the only similarity with the film. What a great story though! It’s always good to see Annette Benning on-screen, playing the hotel manager, Mary, in New Jersey - huge product placement for the Hilton. This is where Danny goes to find the grown up son he’s never met and with Mary, maybe look for a partner his own age for the first time? It’s all part of the plan for Part Two of the life of Danny Collins.Entertaining.7½/10Smile factor 8/10
