Film - Strawberry Mansion

The film is utterly bonkers leading to another lovely experience at The Electic Cinema. For the first time in I don’t know how long, I went in and bought a ticket* (on my silver membership). I received a little paper school ticket and got shown to my seat. It all added to the joy of being in this place

Strawberry Mansion has its pink moments, I’d be disappointed if the colour didn’t feature, and then it has its dark moments, and heartwarming stories but mostly it just doesn't make sense

We are in the future where James, a dreams auditor(stay with me) arrives at an old lady, artist Arabella’s house in the middle of nowhere. He realises there is a lot to go through at Strawberry Manion and Arabella offers him a room for the night, rather than him going to a motel.

For a film set in the future, everything looks old-fashioned. From his ‘tech’ to his car to the way he is dressed - we could be in the 1950s but we’re about 100 years on. It's like watching Star Trek from the 80s and wondering why they don’t have tiny mobile phones but they do have teleporting.

We don’t know what’s real, and what’s a dream until we learn the government allows ad companies to implant product placements in people's dreams. So then we realise why the guy keeps turning up with buckets of KFC intended to fix every problem and why Bella keeps her dreams on VHS tapes to avoid the dream taxes.

Nothing as it seems, I loved everything about going to see this strange little film in a lovely little cinema.

*I did check tickets were available first but decided it would be quicker to buy there. If they had a sudden rush and had no tickets, I only live a few minutes' walk away.
