Film - Saint Frances

Who’d have thought you can make a film that takes on abortions, periods and postnatal depression?

With Saint Frances, we get to step into the world of 30-something Bridget who is charged with caring for cute primary schooler Frances. Seemingly a natural, Bridget clearly did not learn her parenting skills from her negligent mum and doesn’t even like kids. But anything is better than another summer as a ‘server’.

Saint Frances is more comedy than drama and Bridget is so laid back about everything to unwanted pregnancy to nannying for the first time, we go along with it. I love the different relationships Bridget built with with the two mums, especially with the overwhelmed birth mother. The kid who played Frances is a delight. I say play, in reality, a child actor is following instructions.

There is a fair amount of talk of vaginal functions littering the film which is both refreshing and alarming. Fair to say a few people will learn from watching Saint Frances.
