Film: The Little Mermaid

All of the Little Mermaid stuff happened after my childhood so whereas I don’t know the original story, the tile kind of gives it away.

Things I liked

  • Ariel’s (Halle Bailey) eternal optimism that all humans could not be bad.

  • That her dad, King Triton's daughters came in all shapes and colours

  • Melissa McCarthy plays the over-made-up baddie, the sea monster

  • The colours

  • The Prince is adopted and yet has an expensive ship adventure habit

  • Awkwafina who is good in everything

  • Reading the one-star reviews that did not like Ariel for some reason but liked everyone else

Not so keen

  • Yet another Disney story about a Princess falling for a Prince - but I will let that one know.

  • The Little Mermaid wants to change to be someone else (human) because of the above

Not my usual thing but it was great to hear the songs I had no idea came from this story.
