Film: California Schemin’
I always look forward to a British film, and was doubly keen to see this, about a Scottish hip-hop duo who pretended to be American to have a chance of success.
So far, so good, but once the two friends from Dundee secured their contract with the record company boss (James McAvoy, who also directed), the clichés tumble in like the proverbial tsunami.
They had barely signed a deal before - well, it’s so clichéd I can’t even be bothered to go into the dull shenanigans that took up the rest of the film. Plus it lacked humour.
The premise - especially after hearing McAvoy talk about it - seemed so interesting. But this is as disappointing as the fact that they felt they needed to be American to succeed.
