Music Monday: Christmas Songs

When it comes to Christmas, I'm on the 'love it' side so it's quite tricky to choose just five Christmas songs. I've gone with these as Christmas is not the same without them.

  1. Christmas Wrapping - The Waitresses. My all time favourite Christmas song, now 30 years old and I love it more than ever because it sums up my Christmas. It also reminds me of a Christmas in New York long before I had my own very first Christmas in New York
  2. Santa Claus is Coming to Town - Bruce Springsteen. A live version that is guaranteed to make me laugh and is very Spectoresque
  3. Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) - Darlene Love.  It comes from the best Christmas album of all time 'A Christmas Gift For You' by Phil Spector. I could have put half of that album in this list but the heartfelt pleas on this one make it the stand out track.
  4. Driving Home For Christmas - Chris Rea.  It reminds me of the days I used to do just that. Now I fly away for Christmas but haven't come across a track depicting that scene.
  5. Fairytale of New York - Pogues & Kirsty MacColl. Because of great memories of Christmas parties over the years, of Kirsty MacColl, of an ex Dubliner boyfriend and of course, of New York.

A bonus one, just because it makes me smile; Cliff Richard (a family fave I grew up with), 'Mistletoe & Wine'. It's the song my niece and I used to break into in the run up to the big day and then be in fits of giggles for no apparent reason. So, as I say,  it just makes me smile remembering the family Christmases.Go on, remind me of the ones I have missed.Merry Christmas! Here's to a musical and fabulous 2011 for all of us x
