Movie – The Heat

So looking forward to it, so love the ladies in it, so wanted to love it!This action comedy is fronted by the ladies: Ms Sandra Bullock and the magnificent Melissa McCarthy star of, Mike & Molly, the most entertaining comedy to come out of …. well, anywhere, in years. One plays a FBI agent sent to solve a career-boosting case and is confronted by the local, law breaking detective. Her heart is in the right place but even her boss cannot control her bad behaviour. Of course they end up partnering up, Miss Congeniality stylee. The Heat looks good on paper and maybe I’d just over-hyped it in my head as a lot of people were laughing out loud around me. But there was just too much slapstick and not enough intelligent humour for me. If I didn’t have the huge expectation, then maybe the incessant references to the overweight, thieving Irish family - jokes that are older than the potato famine would have been funnier. But after two or three, the humour headed back east. This gets embarrassing when it's still going on half way through. For some reason, I expected a brilliant soundtrack and the feeling is only intensified by the opening sequence which was like something out of a cool 1970s cop show, obvious but it works. But the soundtrack never came.Having said all of that, it was a joy to see the ladies together on the screen and I would happily see the film again for that. Really I would. It’s left wide open for The Heat 2 and I’m hoping for more.I bet they had a ball making it.7½ (Just for the acting)Smile factor 6/10Coffee Rating : Cappuccino
