Movie – Papadopoulos & Sons

All I knew……this was about a fish and chip shop so I’d assumed it was British. The low down…Harry has built up an empire from nothing and has taken out a huge loan to build a sky scraper that should be his legacy. He’s widowed and bringing up three kids who live in luxury with a housekeeper. All this changes when the banking world collapses and the big loan is called in. Harry can’t repay and can’t rebuild so ‘temporarily’ has to give up the house, the offices, the business and the lifestyle. While he’s looking for new investors, he’s reminded he owns a dormant fish and chip shop with his estranged brother.I love it because…I love the world of business but even more so when it’s grassroots level. Harry has no choice but to get in touch with Spriros, mediated by the motherly figure that is Mrs Parrington. Uncle Spiros is happy to be back in contact with his family including the spoilt but with a heart of gold teenage daughter, the quiet wannabee gardener middle son and the youngest, the financial wizard. Spiros encourages them to move into the upstairs to make Harry’s remaining £25,000 stretch while they refurbish the chip shop ready for business.Meanwhile, Harry is talking to his irritating accountant (you just want him to get his comeuppance) about investors but we already sense that he actually likes the fun of being with his family rather than corporate bankers. The film covers loss – the loss of a loved one, the loss of wealth and status and includes my favourite message on the definition of success – to be happy – rather than counting the money in your bank.http://www.papadopoulosandsons.com/8/10Smile factor 9/10Coffee rating:  Americano
