Movie - Money Monster

When two Hollywood heavyweights join forces on a movie, it will get attention. In this case Julia Roberts – who I’ll almost always watch (except in those terrible, all-star-cast season films) and George Clooney – who I took many years to warm to.Following on from The Big Short, this is the second film I’ve seen this year about financial improprieties. This time ‘the wizard of Wall Street’, Lee Gates (Clooney) has his own TV programme and is produced by Patty Fenn (Roberts). One Friday, they are infiltrated by a gunman live on the set who demands some answers for why the  investment Lee recommended, went south. With Lee in a suicide jacket and a gun to his head, the Patty is forced to actually find out why the tip he gave didn’t come true and many people lost money. This leads them to track down the elusive CEO of the company in question, IBIS Clear Capitol and ask him directly. We are introduced to the person who wrote the algorithm, given a little behind the scenes of IBIS and mostly the background of the gunman, Kyle. His pregnant girlfriend is none too pleased that he has lost the money and berates him publicly. I’m left wondering, while the dirty tricks in the corrupt finance industry leave me flabbergasted, in this case, wasn’t Kyle gullible to bank his live savings on this one investment?Although there are errors, I appreciate there wouldn't be a film without them. It’s a much faster moving film that may have been imagined with believable performances all round and anything that highlights corruptness in the finance industry is worth a watch.7/10
