Movie – Dead Man Down

The only film we saw during a week in San Francisco following my week of business there. The little indie cinema on Chestnut Street that I had frequented when I was last in the city in 2007 is still going strong and this time, I found myself in a little room with about just 30 seats! We thought we may be alone but a couple of other people did join us. It was freezing as San Fran spring evenings tend to be despite the very warm, sunny days but still, what a lovely way to see a film.So the film is interesting. This is the story of Victor who has infiltrated the gang responsible for killing his wife and child simply because they were inconveniently in the wrong place at the wrong time. His plan is to get his revenge, when the time is right which is some time later. Meanwhile, the plot is complicated with the arrival of his opposite neighbour, who has a slightly disfigured face as a result of car accident. She wants the drunk driver killed by Victor and is blackmailing him with a film she’s made of him strangling someone in his own flat. She’s also on a romantic quest. A hit man sure has to wonder what’s wrong with a girl who wants to date him despite her knowing what he does for a living. Or for kicks in some cases. It gets interesting as he tries to tackle both vengeful challenges towards the end but I could have taken or left this one.6½/10Smile factor 5/10
