Film: Juliet, Naked (in-flight) November 2019)

Based on another Nick Hornby novel, this is centred around a couple who break up after the guy’s (Chris O’Dowd) obsession (running online forum’s, having a shrine etc.) to a onetime recording artist Tucker (Ethan Hawke) who after achieving cult fame disappeared off the world’s stage.

In anger, Annie (Rose Byre) writes a scathing review of an album and the songwriter who despite being busy with about eight children across the globe, happens to read it and gets in touch and so an unlikely (and I mean, unlikely) transatlantic relationship forms. (Tucker is American, obvs)

Didn’t we already have this with Notting Hill?

This is so disappointedly cringy that I’m glad I missed it at the cinema although I am left wondering if the book would be more enjoyable.

As far as Hornby novels turned into films are concerned, I’m sticking to watching About a Boy every time it’s on.
