Film: Theater Camp

I had 90 minutes of fun watching Theater Camp. It was just what I needed to unwind before our upcoming Rotterdam adventure. The theatre camp, a famous summer institution, is in trouble after its owner falls into a coma. The seasonal actors, who were also full-time teachers, are not very good at their job, but they turn up every year to teach the excited kids who want to become the next big [insert name of Broadway or West End star- I have no clue] theatre star.

What is a straight play?

The owner's son, a broke guy with poor communication skills but knows how to engage online, now has the responsibility of managing the theatre. Realising it is broke, he looks to make some money in a haphazard way, using the only approach he knows.

The film seemed to be made by its actors and is clearly a labour of love. Shot in a mockumentary way - although I did not notice that at the time, Theater Camp is a self-deprecating and embracing portrayal of theatre culture with plenty of jokes.

It’s difficult to find any fault with it.

I give it a healthy 8/10.
