Film - The Lion King

I’m one of those unusual folk who have never seen the original animation and now I realise how sad it is. How do the kids cope?

In case you are a fellow LK virgin, Simba is to inherit the Lion King title from his father Mufasa except he goes through the terror of seeing his much-respected father falling to his death. The young prince gets the blame and runs away and so his evil uncle Scar, steps up to the throne instead.

I loved how it brings the animals to life for us although personally I would have liked more apes and monkeys. The one featured sure was the wise one. Also that the lionesses rallied together when the BAD lion king (no capitals for him) came to power.

It’s telling to see all the outcasts rallying together too, taking in Simba when they know nothing about him other than he is all alone in the world. They all live in an oasis free from responsibilities other than each other and by the phrase hakuna matata, no worries.

For once, the hype is worthwhile; it is a fantastic film packed with lessons for life such as friends are important and you make your own family plus there are other people (animals) in the world that deserve equality. Although loyalty is the most common trait running through Lion King as featured in so many kids films, the biggest lesson for kids here is of responsibility although.

We have feminism, mental health and well-being all covered in the latest Lion King. Just how do kids still grow up to be such monsters? I guess they weren't shown these films. I’m glad I saw it.
