Film: The Good Liar

The story of the conman and the wealthy widow is this time told through septuagenarians Roy and Betty who meet online. As they realise they both lied on their profiles immediately upon meeting, they figure they are even and develop a close friendship.

Betty’s (Helen Mirren) grandson is immediately suspicious and feels she is too trusting too early when she allows Roy (Ian McKellen) to move in while recovering from a knee injury. Eventually, there are hints that Betty knows more than she lets on and in the last quarter, the mystery unfolds. There are little twists along the way where we think Roy is going to be found out. However, the best twist comes at the end (unless you’ve read the book) and I do love the conclusion.
