Film - Brian and Charles

I loved both Brian and Charles. One is a lonely inventor who created a wooden man. The other is the wooden man who came to life as Charles the robot.

What’s not to love?

It felt like a privilege to watch them become friends and consequently see Brian’s confidence grow as a woman enters his life.

We follow the three of them to encounter everything from gentle mockery to bullying and watch how much they fight to keep this friendship. Utterly heartbreaking at times, Brian and Charles is at it’s heart a film about isolation, friendship and living. I’d forgotten until I watched the trailer for the first time that the film is based in rural Britain, although is could be based anywhere.

I’d love to see another film with these characters.
