Book – The Glorious Heresies by Lisa McInerney

This has been on my reading list for so long, I have no idea how it landed there. Usually it's a review or someone has mentioned it at a book event. The Glorious Heresies, the author’s debut, was a tough book to get into, despite it being a well-written – for which it’s received huge accolades. It’s the story; why does every Irish novel I read have to be about junkies, prostitutes, gangsters, alcoholics, and of course, the lapsed Catholic? No I don’t know why either. But, I persevered despite wanting to stop reading a curse word in every sentence by about chapter four. I’m pleased I did – it is an amazing piece of work – but boy is it miserable. I had no character to route for whatsoever. You, however, will probably really enjoy it.
