Book: Moving by Jenny Éclair

I bought this on impulse when I found myself in Southampton for the weekend without my book and got into it immediately. As the cover says, the story of family secrets, starting with an old lady, Edwina deciding to sell her rambling old home she’s lived in her whole adult life. We hear about her first love, her children growing up and her second marriage and step son. Just as I wonder how the whole book can be her looking back over her life as she goes from room to room, and settle down to this fact, we change character.Cleverly, we are introduced to a new character that hasn’t yet been mentioned. At this point I look ahead to see if get any more. There is one more with a smaller section in the last third.I really didn’t want Edwina’s chapters to end but I did enjoy the book once I got into the next character, Fern and then finally Lucas, the step son weaving all the threads together.Being an interiors geek, I was mostly hankering after all the minute detail about the various habitats. I also loved reading about London society and their various off-spring, with a little dabble in politics and fair bit of university life. 8/10
