Movie: Finding Dory

Dory is the little blue fish, as cute as you like, but with a short-term memory loss problem. Having lost her parents long ago when she couldn’t find her way home, Dory is now living with a father and son, Marlin and Nemo. One day, on a school field trip, something reminds her she has parents and persuades her new ‘family’ to go to the other side of the ocean to find them again. As Dory pieces back more of her memory, she learns her parents will be at the Marine Life Institute in California. Once there, a few more friends join them in the search; the beluga whale, the octopus (minus a tentacle) and the whale shark. Somehow Dory knows how to speak whale which helps get her out of sticky situations when humans come along.I love that in this world, pretty much all creatures just get on, sharks and goldfish, octopus and sea lions, turtles and otters. All help Dory’s search for her parents. Also the film stimulates the idea that family can be much more than those who share your bloodline.7½/10
