Movie: BFG

I’ve only a vague recollection of this Roald Dahl story from childhood, helped somewhat by the trailer and promotional imagery, so, really, I enjoyed the film like putting on a pair of boots I’d completely forgotten I had.To begin with, I thought we were going to be locked away in the dark cave with our Big Friendly Giant and Sophie, the girl he – well, abducted because she spotted him on his trip to the city -for the whole 117 minutes. As much as liked the friendship that developed between them, it was good to see the other (human-eating) bigger giants in Giant Land and the BFG protect Sophie from them. I liked that the two of them went to see the queen at Buckingham Palace. Bizarrely, that saw us stretching our imagination more than the fact that giants exist. It’s easy to see why we were frightened as children what with Wicked Witches and Child Catchers to contend with too.7½/10
