Film - Journey to the Shore

Watched on board Air Canada – Nov 2017

Mizuki’s husband drowned three years ago. But when he suddenly comes back home, Mizuki is not surprised to see him.

A fix of world cinema is always a priority for me when I fly. It throws up films I’ve never heard off and definitely wouldn’t see in main stream UK cinemas. Having watched some amazing Japanese films on my flight to Tokyo earlier this year, this synopsis intrigued me.Indeed, Mizuki’s mourning period is such that when her husband re-appears, she is so delighted to see him, she fusses over him and they decide to leave their home life to go to the place where he has been for three years, the shore. Is he a ghost or a figment of her imagination? Regardless, she travels with him, from place to place and meets people who have looked after him and employed him while we are left to wander what is really going on.7/10
